Social media offers a lot of opportunities to big and small organisations to get their message across. Face it social media, does not matter what form has changed the way we share information, communicated, and are influenced.
Here are a few reasons why I do not think social media is the one thing that can change your business.
1. Not everyone is using Social Media
For everyone who is on Facebook there are 3 people who are not or are not connected to you so you still have to use old tactics to reach your desired audience to get the R.O.I that you are looking for. Each business genre will have its own following, be it social media, email, posters, TV etc. You have to know where YOUR market and the right avenues to get your message across.
2. Content is required
When running any social media campaign you will need content and a strategy. You can not just copy another businesses formula and hope that this will work for you. You need something bespoke to what you are offering. You market does not want to hear the same spiel as your your competitor. In having good content you also nee PR, you have got to get what you are saying to a wide audience.
3. Social media needs to be apart of everything else
If you have one person or agency looking after you Pr and another person looking after your Social Media you are going to have two message pushing one goal. This is not good as people will get confused and loose interest in what you are saying. Keep you message streamlined with everything thing else. Marketing, PR, Social Media all have to be thinking as one. They are all tools working for the same goal.
So start asking the right questions and make sure that Social Media is the right answer.
